Type 1 hair may seem easy to take care of, and in relation to other hair types, it's usually pretty tame. But if you’re lacking knowledge you can have many bad hair days. Here, we have some product suggestions that can help style, clean, condition and defrizz that straight hair.
There are three hair subtypes: type 1a which is thin and pin needle straight, type 1b with a little more volume and a wave and type 1c straight with some movement and bends. Straight hair doesn't hold much volume so if you'd like to curl or have a certain texture for your hair, then that is going to depend on the products you use. However, sometimes products may not hold your hair just because of its nature 🤷
The use of the products below will depend on which subtype you have. 1a can very easily be weighed down by products and is not very porous. It does not frizz very much but it also cannot hold different shapes easily.
1b is thicker and you may think you need more product for washing it, but that would prove to be unnecessary and can lead to product and oil build-up.
1c is coarse with more of a wave than 1a and 1b. It can easily become frizzy and dry so the right products and proper routine must be used to care for it.
Shampooing creates the foundation for healthy hair. With straight hair, you'll want to go easy on the shampoo and washes. Over-washing type 1 hair, especially 1a hair, will make it extremely oily on the scalp and subsequently on the hair.
When you over-wash your hair and dry the scalp out, your body will overproduce oils. Because of this, you'll want to choose a lighter shampoo that cleans and clears up build-up, but does not dry it out. You will also likely only have to wash your hair 2-3 times a week.
Make sure to blow dry or air dry your hair before sleeping to minimize frizz. Do not brush your hair right out of the shower but let it dry before doing so. This will allow for your hair to have more volume both from the drying of the hair and allowing your hair not to be pulled down by the immediate brushing.
If you must go to bed with wet hair consider putting some leave-in conditioner in prior to hitting the hay 😴
This shampoo is free of sulfates, doesn't weigh hair down and rejuvenates damaged hair. You don't need to use a lot of shampoo as you do not want to dry out your hair or cause major product build-up.
